What a ridiculously, frustratingly, horrible feature. There should be an account-level mechanism that prevents accidentally turning on this feature. CRAP!

I spent an hour searching for how to fix this. It was even worse for me, because Filter keys was tunrd on, too, and I couldn't get rid of it. it was set to 5 seconds. I could only enter 12 characters a minute.

Thank you! I don't know why the cancel button doesn't work. As someone who taps on keys when thinking, this infuritating 'feature' crops up way too often. At least I know how to actually turn it off now!

Thank you so much!!!! It said hit two keys at one I was trying shift + Ctrl. Another note: TO REMOVE STICKYKEYS go to control panel>Accesibility Options>Sticky keys>settings>Use shortcut Uncheck this and hitting shift 5 times in a row will do nothing and finally you'll never have to worry again =)

It's a sad state of affairs to tear ones hair out until you come across this website showing how to get rid of this infuriating thing stickey keys. As a touch typist i type really fast and it was ignoring half of what i was writing! Finally disabled it with advanced configuration for filter keys to reduce the reepetition time..

If your keyboard is beeping I would check that a key is not jammed down. Try another keyboard if possible.

This has been the biggest annoyance with my laptop. At times I was able to hit certain keys to switch it off, but when I pressed both shift keys at the same time, it was fixed automatically. No more pulling out my hair. Thanks so much for this information. I was so annoyed, I wanted to hurl my computer out of my house!

To get rid of StickyKeys for good go to Control Panel - Accessibility Options - Keyboard - StickyKeys - Settings and uncheck the box called "Keyboard shortcut" which if checked monitors for shift pressed five times.
There is a similar box to be unchecked in FilterKeys section which monitors pressing shift for 8 seconds.

When using laptop keyboard it appears to be permanently on caps lock. Extremely frustrating as I can not type numbers or dots - therefore trying to type in a website address or email is useless, in fact having the laptop is useless!! This does not happen ALL the time and the 'sticky keys' message pops up ever now and then. I have tried all the suggestions....does this sound like a Sticky Keys problem or something else? Would be most appreciative of a solution. This has been going on for a couple of months now ever since trying to load a CD game for one of my little nephews!

I finally figured it out I think. I notice for some, just turning the sticky keys off in the Accessibility options under control panel, didn't work. I got pissed off, restarted my computer, and that didn't work. I went back to the Accessibility options, and unchecked the Filter Keys box as well. It turned everything off, and I was typing normal again. Hope that helps, it ended my 30 minutes of complete hell.

Yeah, so i love it when you are typing up your resume, and while without thinking you hold in the shift key for 8 seconds unintentionally, and BAM. You only plan on typing this resume for 15 minutes seeing as how you have a calculus exam to study for on Monday, and then your whole resume disappears because everything was highlighted and you pressed one key, thus erasing everything, and you can't undo it.. I then begin to search google, searching for about 50 minutes until i find a solution that actually works, the others are garbage. Not to mention everytime i presed a link a whole new window would open until i had about 25 windows open. Thanks so much man, this saved me from throwing my whole computer in the trash and it saved me from neglecting to study for me exam. This is feature is shit, and it just fucks everything up on everybody , why would it ever be invented

SORRY FOR THE ALL CAPS-
IT SEAMS THAT DIFRENT DISTRABUTIONS OF WINDOWS HAVE DIFFRENT MESSED UP VERTIONS OF STICKY KEYS ON MINE "STICKY KEYS" SEAMS TO DO NOTHING MORE THEN HOLD THE SHIFT KEY DOWN FOR ME AND IGNORE IF IT IS PRESSED.
I'M TALKING IN ALL CAPS FOR OTHER THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM I FIXED IT BY HITTING ALL THE CONTOL ALT AND SHIFT KEYS ON BOTH SIDES A FEW TIMES SO IT MUST BE SOME COMBO.
good luck if you have this or some other problem.

Thanks, this feature is absolutlely useless and annoying and Microsoft should get rid of it immediately in the next version of Windows.

As soon as that msg comes up saying you have turned sticky keys on by holding a button for 8 seconds, that's it, there is no way of cancelling it!

Imagine for one moment that you only had one arm and had accidentally turned on sticky keys. With your thumb on either shift key, you can reach any key on the keyboard, so wouldn't need sticky keys. But you couldn't possibly reach both shift keys with one had (well I can't anyway). What a horribly inaccessible accessibility option.

If anyone finds that pressing shift twice, pressing shift 5 times etc does not work and you are typing in caps and when u click on an icon in your desk top it selects all of them, then it most likely mean your shift key is stuck (even if it does not seem so). Take the shift key out and remove all the dust and other stuff and press the key a few times rapidly and quite hard (not enough to break it) and this should free up the shift key.
This happened to me and i spent a lot of time pressing shift at the sametime etc....
Hopefully if the information already given does not work then this should as it did for me.

Turned out that it wasnt sticky keys causing the problem. but that I'd swithed the num lock on, on my lap top........My NEW laptop that ive only had 3 days....by-the-way num lock even easier to get rid of... Just repress num lock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
